Top 5 Concerns About Outsourcing Post-Production

Photographers provide a lot of reasons for not outsourcing their post-production work (at least before they talk with us), and most of those fall into the same few categories.  We thought we’d share with you the top five concerns we hear from photographers about outsourcing their post-production work. I bet you’ll identify with at least one of these.

  1. “I don’t want to give up control.”  We understand, and our recommendation is to start easy. For example, do your own image selection and finishing, but let PWD do the color-correction part in the middle. Add on from there only when you’re ready.
  2. “Outsourcing might take too long.”  A valid concern, especially in this busy time of year. Worry not: PWD turns your jobs around in just 4 business days. Send your images in on Monday and have them back the same week!
  3. “No one else can understand what I want.”  We work very hard to do just that. Your PWD editor gets to know you before your first job, and we love to receive feedback after every job so we can refine the work we do for you.
  4. “It’s too expensive.”  Outsourcing certainly has an out-of-pocket cost. To see if it’s “expensive,” compare that to the cost of your time and the resources you have to maintain to do the work in-house. Also, think about what you’re not doing, like marketing, building client relationships and shooting. Outsourcing post-production might not be so expensive after all.
  5. “Someone else is going to see my out-of-camera images.”  True, but that’s nothing to worry about. We work with hundreds of photographers just like you, and we never share secrets.

Do any of those sound like you? We know a quick blog article won’t alleviate all your concerns, but hopefully it’s enough to get you thinking. Feel free to contact us, and we’d be happy to address any remaining qualms you might have. We’re pretty confident you’ll be happy that you did.
